Spain's Banco BBVA has opened an office in San Francisco, following on from opening an office in Miami last month.
The bank said the new office, which be located nearby to companies such as Google, Facebook and Apple, will allow it to develop strategic partnerships.
BBVA added that it also expects to forge important partnerships with Stanford University and the University of California at Berkeley.
BBVA's San Francisco office, which opened in August 2011, is in the city's SOMA district next to companies like Zynga and Foursquare.
The new office is headed by Jay Reinemann, former director of VISA's Venture Group and it falls under a new area of the bank, New Models Strategy and M&A, which is part of the Strategic and Corporate Development division lead by Carlos Torres.
The San Francisco team is working closely with a Madrid based team whose responsibility is to coordinate innovation teams across BBVA's international footprint.
