Further seismic activity was 'felt' this morning, on the Canary Island of El Hierro. The Earthquake shock slightly before 6am this morning and was registered at a depth of 13km and registered a magnitude of 3.3.
The epicentre was located towards the centre of the Island and south of los Llanos.
Barely ten minutes later a second earthquake was registered in the same location, with a magnitude of 2.7 and was registered at a depth of 14km.Although many newspapers reporting that the recent swarm has now resulted in excess of 9'000 earthquakes to date, 'only' around 60 of them have occurred at a depth or strength to be able to felt by the public.
Many of the Islanders regard the earthquakes and potential volcanic eruption with a laid-back curiosity. El Hierro is the most active of the Volcanic Canary Islands and as such has become part of their daily lives. Many Businesses on the Island are already looking at ways to exploit 'Volcano Tourism' as seen in Hawaii, and one local newspaper is running a 'Guess the name' competition for any resulting Volcano that may emerge as a result of the recent activity.
Curiously, many of the locals have also put more time and effort into organising the evacuation of the island's protected lizards. The indigenous Gallotia Simonyi giant lizard is unique to the Islands and there are only believed to be 400 of them in existence.
Please note : The Video clip, whislt interesting, is not a Tumbit production, nor is it an official scientific observation.
