Support for Spain's PP opposition has pulled further away from the ruling PSOE party, just weeks ahead of the country's general election on November 20th.
Yesterday El Mundo published the findings of their Sigma Dos poll of public opinion, which revealed how, if the election was held tomorrow, the PP would take 47.8% of the vote with just 31.6% of the electorate would vote for the ruling Socialists.
The Conservative PP has consistently been ahead of the PSOE party in the survey results since December 2008.
While the PP is expected to increased cutting measures and make further structural reforms, it has still to produce a definitive manifesto of measures. Analysts are wary that many voters are so keen to replace the Socialists that they will trust leader Mariano Rajoy without fully knowing what his intentions are.
This weeks poll shows improving support for the PP, with their margin growing from 15.6 points last week to 16.2 points this week.
If this lead can be maintained between now and the election it would give the conservatives 193 seats in the 350-seat Parliament, a clear majority with the Socialists holding just 122 seats and the remaining 35 seats being split between the minor regional parties.
