Eroski are reported to be discussing proposals to open a further 150 new supermarkets by 2013 through a franchise system, as it focusses on expanding their operations throughout Spain. A report in the Expansion daily newspaper said the move is part of Eroski's aim to have 600 domestic outlets operational by end the end of 2013.
Enrique Martinez, director of Eroski Supermarket Franchise, was cited as saying the group would focus on towns with more than 1,800 people, allowing it to establish a presence in areas currently not being served.
