Royal Decree makes provision for those effected by Lorca earthquake and El Hierro Volcano

Tue 1st Nov 2011

The Bank of Spain announced a royal decree to alleviate financial pressure on the Island of El Hierro, which has suffered damage to it's fishing industry following a ban due to volcanic pollution these last few weeks.

The royal decree also makes provision for aid for the town of Lorca in Murcia, which suffered structural damage to many of the town's buildings during the earthquakes in May of this year.

As far as Lorca is concerned, Royal Decree-Law 17/2011 of 31 October, has the dual purpose of supplementing aid that has already been provided, and also review the regulation of how aid payments are awarded.

The decree is also encouraging measures to support the town in the recovery of trade, which accounts for 25% of the allocation of the 'Plan for Improving Productivity and Competitiveness of Trade 2009 -2012'.

With regards to El Hierro, the Island has been granted exemption from fees on real estate tax for 2011 for all buildings that have been affected by volcanic eruptions (Not that Tumbit is aware of any at this mnoment in time !)

The measures also include authorization by the General Treasury of Social Security to those companies with a high number of employees and for Autonomo workers who have been affected by the recent earthquakes and volcanic eruptions.
