The National Geographic Institutr of Spain (IGN) studying the seismic activity on the Canary Island of El Hierro have reported a total of 17 Earthquakes over the couse of the last 24 hours (16.00 hrs Saturday - 16.00 hrs Sunday GMT).
As in almost all previous activity in recent days and weeks, activity over this last 34 hours was focussed on the El Golfo bay area, to the North-West of the town of Frontera on the North coast of the island.
The instensities varied from between 1.5 to 3.7 on the richter scale - with three activities being recorded at 3.0 or more, and being felt by the residents of the Island. Depth ranged from 15km to 21km.As far as the volcanic activity on the south of the island is concerned, the Ramon Margeleff Oceanographic research vessel has once again been studying the volcanic eruption vents, with further information being expected tommorrow.
Meanwhile PEVOLCA have confirmed that CO2 emmissions have now reached almost 5 times the usual amount recorded on the island (345 tonnes per day under normal conditions).
