Iberia Pilots have announced a further 3 days of strike action, to take place on the 25th, 27th and 30th of January, following on from the 2 previous days of action earlier this month and the 2 days before Christmas.
The Pilots, who are represented by the SEPLA Union, are protesting over the possible job losses and cuts to salaries that they expect to come as a result of the creation of the new Iberia Express airline in March.
Iberia's Groundcrew and Cabincrew, represented by the CCOO and UGT Unions are also considering joining the action from February, when it is rumoured that a strike will be held on every Monday and Friday until a resolution can be found with airline executives.
As far as this month's action is concerned, SEPLA say that they have chosen the dates so as not to disrupt the Spanish tourism fair, FITUR, which runs in Madrid between the 18th and 22nd of this month. This news comes despite previous strike dates of 18th & 29th December and the 9th & 11th of January being chosen specifically to disrupt the busy travel periods immediately before and after the Christmas and Three Kings holidays.
Whilst more than happy to disprupt induvidual passengers, it seems that the Union does not wish to upset the Industry in general.
