Iberia airlines Ground crew voted yesterday in favor of taking action from next month in protest over there concerns with job security guarantees from the airline's management after the launch of the company's low-cost short-to-medium haul carrier Iberia Express, union representatives said.
Eleven out of 13 union members on the company's works committee votedin favour of taking strike action on every Monday and Friday starting from the 3rd of February.
The airline's pilot union - SEPLA - is also taking strike action on January 25th, 27th and 30th, also in protest against the creation of Iberia Express. Pilots have already held four separate days of action before and after the bust Christmas holidays, timed to cause maximum disruption to passengers.
Cabin crew have yet to make any decision with regards to joining the action and have so far continued to work normally, but a decision may be made by unions shortly.
Iberia CEO Rafael Sánchez Lozano warned the situation at Iberia "could become unmanageable."
