Former employees of the collapsed airline, Spanair, have criticized the offers of employment extended to them by Vueling and Ryanair in their bids to capitalise on their bids to expand into the voids left behind by the Catalan airline.
The Spanair employees have referred to the conditions of work offered to them as being "miserable", and that they do not compare with their previous contracts, or those offered by Iberia and Air Europa.
Vueling have offered priority to former Spaniar employees oin their applications for work, whereas Ryanair have said that whilst applications are welcome, that former Spanair employees would be treated the same as any other candidate.
Vueling, who is also based at Barcelona El Prat airport, had already begun a recruitment program as they had already planned to increase routes to and from El Prat, and following the demise of Spanair, have not ruled out further expansion.
The collapse of the airline leaves an estimated 2'000 employees without work, and an estimated 2'000 indirect workers who may lose employment as a result.
