Ryanair has made an offer of employment to 70 Pilots previously employed by the collpased Spanair airline, on the condition that they are legally employed in Ireland and not Spain.
Ireland, where Ryanair is based, has employment laws that are more favourable to the employer, and less favourable to the employee than in Spain.
Although the Pilots have been offered the same salary as they were paid at Spanair, a number of the conditions of employment differ.
One of these such points is that Ryanair require the Pilots to finance their own overnight stays, and that the holiday pay is three times less than they previously enjoyed.
Some members of the Spanish press are also reporting that Ryanair's offer is based on the undertsanding that Pilots must finance their own licence renewal and training expenses, at an average cost of around €6'000 per year.
Ryanair have begun a recruitment program due to a number of flights to and from Spain being scheduled for the Summer season, but has stressed that previous employees of Spaniar will not be given preferential treatment and will need to apply for the vacancies like any other applicant.
