Iberia Airlines have announced the cancellation of a total of 127 scheduled flights between Sunday 12th and Tuesday 14th of February in response to the planned strike action by pilots, cabin crew and ground staff for Monday 13th.
Monday next week is one of a number of on-going and future days of strike action in protest over the creation of the airline's new Iberia Express 'low-cost' carrier, due to be launced on March 25th.
Almost two-thirds of the airline's flights due to take place on Monday have been cancelled : 8 of the 37 long-haul; 56 of the 142 medium-haul and 57 of the 136 short-haul flights.
Monday will mark the 8th day of strike action by the Pilots, who are represented by the SEPLA Pilots Unions, with subsequent days of strike action planned for the 17th, 20th, 24th and 29th of this month.
Whilst the CCOO and UGT unions representing Groundcrew and Cabincrew employees of the airline have decided not to join in the strike action, a number of smaller unions have made the decision to support the action with their members striking on these dates.
