Tomorrow's strike by Iberia Airline Pilots will result in the cancellation of more than one-third of all flights schedulked for Wednesday 29th February, totaling 131 operations (38%).
Wednesday will mark the fifth day of strike action that the SEPLA union members have taken this month alone, and the eleventh since the dispute began before Christmas.
Today's action also marks the first date that other employees of the airline, represented by the CTA and CNT ground crew unions and the STAVLA flight attendants unions, have joined with the strike.
Pilots are striking over Iberia's creation of a new low-cost carrier under the name of Iberia Express, which will be launched on the 25th of March. The move is by way of competing against low-cost carriers for the airline's short and medium haul flights and to provide a link to the hub airports, such as Madrid-Barajas, where the more profitable long haul flights depart from.
As with previous days of strike action, flights with Air Nostrum and other carriers are not affected, and passengers can claimn a full refund or exchange their tickets for alternative flights if required.
