Minister to give Paramount update this afternoon

Wed 14th Mar 2012

Murcia's Minister for Culture and Tourism, Pedro Alberto Cruz, will appear before the Regional assembly this afternoon at the request of Jose Antonio Pujante of the IU-Verdes opposition party, to give the house an update on the Paramount theme park project.

After the official purchase of (two-thirds of) the land required to build the park last week, the Minister confirmed to a press conference that the project was on schedule to begin work in May of this year, and to open summer 2015. In a recent interview with Europa Press he reiterated that this fact "is something that is completely safe".

Cruz went on to say how the Paramount project is currently the most substantial and important project that the tourism sector in Spain has ever seen.

The Minister would not be drawn on giving details of any investor who may be involved in the project, but added that "there are many mature contacts." He also recalled that there had been significant involvement by the central government Ministries of Industry and Tourism.

He also addressed doubts that the remaining one-third of the land would ever be purchased, saying how the deal was 'past the point of no return'.

The Minister reminded the press how the theme park was a cornerstone of the recent "Brand Spain" promotion by the Tourist Board of Spain, ending by saying how the park "will be absolutely crazy" with a great design, with practically all the attractions using the latest 3D and 4D technology.
