Volotea, the Barcelona based Spanish low-cost carrier created just last year by the founders of Vueling, Carlos Muñoz & Lázaro Ros, began operations earlier today with it's forst three routes from Venice.
The scheduled routes for the new airline will increase gradually from their base at Marco Polo airport in Venice to a total of 24 routes : 7 national and 17 international.
Volotea will now operate a total of 76 routes in 56 cities in 10 countries throughout Europe : Germany, Czech Republic, Croatia, Spain, France, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Poland and Portugal.
As far as Spain is concerned, there will be 36 routes offered to 15 Spanish cities: Alicante; Bilbao; Granada; Ibiza; Malaga; Menorca; Oviedo; Palma; Santiago de Compostela; Santander; Seville; Valencia; Valladolid; Vigo and Zaragoza. Of these 36 Spanish routes, 14 are tro be domestic and 22 international.
The airline, which will have operational bases in Venice Marco Polo, Nantes and Ibiza, has sold a total of 60,000 tickets in its first month of marketing.
