It is now one month to the day since PEVOLCA Scientists confirmed that the 'eruptive phase' of the underwater volcano off the southern coast of the Canary Island of El Hierro had come to an end.
However, nobody seems to have copied the Volcano itself in on this official press release as news over recent weeks suggest that the jacuzzi arising from the underwater venting has begun once more.
Equally so, in the last 10 days alone Scientists from the National Geological Institute (IGN) who have been observing seismic activity on the Island of El Hierro as part of the earthquake swarm, which began on the 17th of July last year, have recorded 7 earthquakes. Although the level of activity is far less that seen before christmas, it would perhaps indicate that we have not heard the last word from the volcano just yet.Once again, the ongoing pattern of the majority of activities taking place in the area between Frontera and Pinar toward the North-West of the Island continues, with magnitudes ranging between 1.5 to 2.5 on the richter scale, and at depths ranging from between 11 to 29 kms, with the majority of activities taking place at around 1.5 on the ricter scale and at depths of around 15km.
Despite the feint jacuzzi starting up again, it seems that the Cabildo is making an effort to attract tourists back to the island. By effort, we mean disabling the webcam above La Restinga so viewers are not put off by scenes of any erupting.
