Ryanair has compensated a passenger €479.40 for being denied boarding of a flight from Barcelona to Palencia due to being unable to produce a valid form of identification.
The passenger found that their wallet containing their DNI identification card had been stolen upon arrival at the airport, two hours before the flight was due to depart.
The victim reported the theft to the airport's police station where they issued a police report of the theft and supplied teh victims with photcopies of both his DNI and Driving licence.
The National Aviation Safety Plan allows passengers to fly without ID when they are in possession of such a police report.
However, Ryanair denied the passenger boarding and as such he was forced to hire a car and drive to his destination.
Initially the Aviation Agency ordered Ryanair to pay €250 in compensation plus full reimbursement for the cost of his ticket, deeming the treatment of the passenger ot be 'unjustified'.
The Airline did not respond to the ruling and as such the case was moved to court at Granollers, where Ryanair finally responded with an out of court compensation settlement of €479.40.
