28 people from two different far right groups were arrested in Madrid on Saturday for causing a disturbance of the peace outside the hotel Velázquez in the city centre.
All 28 of the arrests came from the ‘Collective Patriotic Socialist Movement’, who were attempting to disrupt a meeting being held inside the hotel by the D.N., Democracia Nacional group. The meeting had invited Nick Griffin - Euro MP and leader of the BNP, to speak alongside Roberto Fiore from Forza Nuova and Manuel Canduela from the DN.
The organizers had asked for police protection to avoid the usual and expected violent confrontations that many anti-system groups arrange every time the DM arranges such a meeting.
Several statements were taken from those involved and a number of people needed medical attention after the event.
A BNP Spokesman alluded to the fact that Nick Griffin ‘may’ have made a visit to Franco’s tomb at the Valley of the Fallen to mark the 34th anniversary of Franco’s death.
