Ryanair has announced that a new operations centre will open in Málaga next year. This brings the total number of such “Bases“ 38 – 5 of which are in Spain. Four aircraft are to be permanently based at the facilities which will serve a total of 19 new routes throughout Europe.
Micheal O’Leary – Ryanair’s CEO made the announcement at a press conference in Málaga earlier in the week, stating how the new base will bring with it 19 new routes from Malaga, increasing their total number of routes to and from Málaga Airport to 39 and the number of flights per week up to 360.
O’Leary, ever the publicist, dressed as Santa Claus to make the press conference, and according to El Mundo, described Ryanair as ‘the angels of all European airlines’ and the only company capable of generating growth. He opening of the Malaga base is expected to result in the generation of 200 new jobs.
Ryanair have offered 500,000 seats on 500 European routes in January and February for just 5 € to mark the announcement.
