A powercut at an airport control tower in the Canaries left eight airports without electricity this morning, which resulted in numerous flights to five of the islands being unable to land, and several others were prevented from taking off.
The powercut lasted between 11.30 and 11.52 am, and at the moment the exact cause of the incident is unknown.
When the power supply was interrupted, 43 planes were waiting to take off from airports from across the islands. These included five each in Fuerteventura and Tenerife North; ten in Lanzarote; 11 each in Gran Canaria and Tenerife South, and one in La Palma.
The Airline Governing body – AENA - recommends that anyone due to fly to or from the Canary Islands today or tomorrow check the website on which they booked their trip to ensure that their flights have not been delayed or cancelled.
