The number of registered unemployed people in Spain dropped by 16,620 in March, compared to February, to 4.79 million, marking the biggest drop in the 3rd month of a year since 2006, the Employment and Social Security Ministry said Wednesday.
The number of jobless people fell by 17,000 in March on a seasonally unadjusted basis, compared to the previous month, the ministry said.
The number of registered unemployed people fell by 239,377 last month, compared to March 2013.
The number of jobless people rose by 14,854 in agriculture, while falling by 5,565 in manufacturing. Construction and the service sector posted drops in joblessness of 13,892 and 21,208, respectively, the ministry said.
The number of registered unemployed people with no prior work experience rose by 9,191. Male unemployment fell by 13,935 to 2.3 million, while the number of jobless female workers dropped by 2,685 to 2.47 million.
The number of jobless people under the age of 25 grew by 2,978 last month to 431,685. The number of unemployed foreigners grew by 4,599 to 580,761, of whom 202,693 were from European Union member countries and 378,068 from non-EU nations.
A total of 1.21 million labor contracts, up 11.53% from February, were signed in March, the ministry said.
The number of people registered with the Social Security System rose by 83,984 in March, compared to February, to 16.29 million.
Some 1.53 million foreign workers were registered with the Social Security System last month, up by 15,201 from the February level, the ministry said.
