Toyota Spain last year sold a total of 3787 hybrid cars with a dual combustion and electric engine. The company stated that, in accordance with the principles of Toyota Motor Corporation, its Spanish subsidiary is still committed to the growth of car sales with hybrid technology, to provide reduced consumption and being environmentally friendly.
These figures represent an increase of 14.4% compared to last year, the company announced today. The majority of these sales came from the third generation Toyota Prius, with 2969 units, followed by models from Lexus RX 400h and RX 450h with 725 units with 73 units GS 450h and LS 600h with 20 units.
Total sales for Toyota vehicles in Spain last year stood at 55,453 units, which enabled the company to raise its share by nine tenths, reaching 5.4%. Of this, 53,496 units were for the Toyota brand, which closed 2009 with a market share of 5.2%, the highest in its history. For its part, Lexus sold 1957 cars last year.
The company noted that 2009 was characterized by a "quite complex" market situation, with "worrying" figures at the beginning of the year, although the arrival of Plan 2000E and a brand marketing offensive marked a new trend to the end of the year.
Toyota moved to Spain in 2010, it has a newly renovated and extended range with competitive models for the Spanish market, while confirming its commitment to customer engagement and the development of new technologies.
