Satellites to launch from Spain's Castellon Airport

 

Celestia Aerospace, the Scientific Engineering company who plans to base their activities at Castellon Airport, has announced that they intend to create around 40 new jobs.

Further to the work generated for the construction of their own facility on site at the Airport, Vice President of the company's Aeronautic Division, Daniel Ventura, to El Mundo that around 40 jobs will be created within the first 2 or 3 years. This will include vacancies for professionals such as aircraft maintenance technicians, general engineers and technicians to oversee the maintenance and operation of satellites.

Ventura confirmed that the integration of the company's technologies with commercial aircraft would all take place at Castellon Airport.

Celestia Aerospace currently employs just 10 people, but projects that the number of staff will slowly grow to 40 after operations commence around Q2 of 2015.

The company manufactures lightweight satellites specially adapted to the needs of each client, up to 10kgs in weight and the size of a grapefruit.

Lleida, Teruel or Castellon ?

Celestia note that they had given thought to locating their operations on a number of other small Spanish Airports - notably Teruel and Lleida - before deciding on Castellon, and favouring the North-East corner of Spain due to its proximity due to both Spain's 'Aerospace Cluster', and the University of Barcelona.

Ventura went on to tell El Mundo how he projected that following the first planned satellite release in Q1 of 2016, operations would grow to 40 launches per year, with Aircraft being dispatched twice weekly from Castellon Airport.

The VP also said how he was still in talks with investors to secure funding of around EU50 Mln, but that a number of Bio-Pharm, Communications and Semi-Conductor companies has expressed an interest in working with the company.
