If there was such as thing as a “Fantasy” league table for shitty weeks, this last one would be way up there.
After having to attend a particularly intensive training course in a Hotel in Leicester, which took me away from home from early on the Monday morning to very late on the Thursday, it was disappointing to hear that I was also expected to fly out to spend 2 and a half weeks in Kuala Lumpur at 5am on the Saturday.
With an 8 week old baby and a hyperactive 5 year old to contend with on her own, the Mrs was understandably less than impressed.
So when I finally double checked my flight agenda I was totally underwhelmed to find that I would be required to change flights at Abu Dhabi before taking a second a flight on to Kuala Lumpur.
What further rubbed salt in the wound was the fact that I would be expected to hang around for 7 hours between flights.
When I finally got off the plane in the searing heat in Abu Dhabi I wasn’t exactly in the best frame of mind, but what made things all the more interesting was that the fact that just 12 hours earlier the “Muslim Brotherhood” had attempted to overthrow the Government of the UAE, which had failed, and resulted in a number of reprisals from both sides.
So here I am sat for 7 hours in the middle of an airport surrounded by the Military and with countless shiny white flying examples of western decadence lying on the runway as cannon-fodder for whichever religious group was pissed off about something this week.
So rather than stress out I decided to blog about the situation as something to occupy my mind with. I was halfway through doing one of my half-arsed video blogs on my phone when I was reminded from reading the news story earlier on the day that one of Pakistan’s Government Ministers had publically and openly called for terror groups to take action against the creator of the controversial Youtube video clip that has recently caused so much upset in the Middle East this week.
Clearly, I would have to tread carefully.
Or better still, not at all.
... In fact, I took the coward’s way out and only so began to type my blog up once the Plane was safely over the Indian Ocean. And even then I know I’m chancing it!
