A convicted fraudster being hunted by police over a baseball bat attack on a gangster has fled to Spain.
Scotland's Daily Record Newspaper reported how Robert Kelbie is in Benalmadena on the Costa del Sol.
Police got a warrant for his arrest after the brutal assault on Kevin McAllister in Craigmillar, Edinburgh , on August 5th.
But a source said: "Kelbie went to the airport hours after the attack.
"He's very worried he will be attacked by someone if he ends up in jail."
The insider said Kelbie has a long list of enemies including cocaine baron Mark Richardson, travelling familes with links to McAllister and "some heavy Glasgow criminals".
He added: "Kelbie will try to hide out in Spain and hope the dust settles.
"Police are well aware he's there, but the extradition process is difficult and the Spanish police won't make finding him a priority."
Kelbie is a convicted mortgage fraudster. A man of 37 is in custody charged with the McAllister attack.
