Nearly 7,000 Chinese students arrived in Spain to pursue a higher education in the fall of 2014, making it a tenfold increase over the past decade, China News Online reports.
In the academic year 2014-15, students from China accounted for the second largest group of international students in Spain, while ten years ago you would struggle to spot an Asian student at the University of Seville, one of the most respected universities in Spain, says Spanish national daily newspaper ABC.
According to MastersPortal.eu, Spain charges students from outside the EU around €1,000 annually in university fees.
The latest data from China's Ministry of Education reveals that 459,800 Chinese students went abroad in 2014, an 11.1% increase from the year before. The leading overseas destinations for Chinese students in 2014 were the US, the UK, Australia, Japan and France.
