Earlier on Thursday, Paris prosecutor confirmed Abaaoud had been identified among those killed in a police raid near the French capital on Wednesday.
"This man [Abaaoud] attempted to recruit Spaniards and Spain's residents, mainly women, through social networks to fight with ISIL in Syria," Diaz told the Spanish Antena3 TV channel in an interview.
The minister stressed that Abaaoud did not recruit Spaniards to carry out terrorist acts in the country.
On November 13, a series of coordinated attacks at various locations in the French capital left 129 dead and hundreds injured.
