Thousands Rally in Anti-War & Terror Protest in Spain

Thousands of people took to the streets of Spanish cities on Saturday to protest against global military conflicts and violence.

The protests were held in Madrid, Barcelona, Seville, Cadiz, Zaragoza and two dozen other cities.

The demonstration in Madrid was attended by representatives of Podemos and United Left political parties, as well as anti-Franco and republican movements.

A representative of the Association of Muslim Youth read out a manifesto condemning the terrorist attacks in Paris, the activities of extremist terrorist organization Islamic State and promised that the Muslim community would prevent the spread of fanaticism, which has no relation to Islam.

He also urged to stop bombing Syria and Iraq. The airstrikes would not bring peace to the international community, the representative said.

Over 40,000 people signed the manifesto, aimed against terrorism, Islamophobia and war.

The international community is currently on high alert in the wake of the deadly attacks in the French capital, explosion on board a Russian Kogalymavia A321 airliner, attacks claimed by ISIL militants, and the spike of violence in many other regions of the world incited and committed by extremists.

The United States has been leading a coalition of some 60 countries launching airstrikes on ISIL positions both in Syria and Iraq since 2014. The military campaign has not been approved by the UN Security Council or Damascus.
