Spanish defence exports rose 25% in value to EUR1.72 billion in the first half of 2015 compared with the same period of 2014, according to figures released by the Spanish Ministry of Economy.
Just over a third - EUR584 million - was accounted for by fellow member states of NATO and the European Union, while global shipments of dual use products and technology were worth EUR81 million.
By far the biggest sector was aeronautics, with an 86% share of exports worth EUR1.49 billion, thanks largely to Spain's participation in pan-European projects such as the Eurofighter EF2000 strike aircraft and the Airbus Defence & Space A400M heavy transport aircraft, which are assembled in Spain.
