The monthly total of contributory pensions paid out by the Spanish Social Security system amounted to 8.43 billion euros at 1 March, 2.99% up on last year.
The average retirement pension stood at 1,037.36 euros, 2.12% higher than for the same period last year. The average pension from the Spanish Social Security system as a whole, which includes all the various types of pension available (retirement, permanent disability, widowhood, orphanhood, and those paid out to relatives), stood at 899.29 euros, representing a year-on-year increase of 1.87%.
In summary, the public system comprises 9,371,760 contributory pensions in total, an increase of 1.09% on last year. More than half of these: 5,702,090, are retirement pensions, while 2,355,949 are widowhood pensions, 934,458 are permanent disability pensions, 339,965 are orphanhood pensions and 39,298 are pensions paid out to relatives.
