The Spanish Foreign Ministry on Monday summoned UK Ambassador to Spain Simon Manley after a naval incident involving the Royal Gibraltar Police (RGP) and Spain's Civil Guard, the ministry said in a statement.
On Friday, a RGP vessel approached a Civil Guard boat in the vicinity of Gibraltar without any warning and created a wave that allegedly almost capsized the Spanish boat.
"A reckless manoeuvre that has been conducted twice, seriously threatened the safety of both vessels and their crews," the statement reads.
Spain's acting State Secretary for Foreign Affairs Ignacio Ybanez has demanded that Manley prevent such incidents in future, it is noted in the statement.
Gibraltar is located on the Iberian peninsula and has been controlled by London since 1713. Some 300 years ago, Spain ceded Gibraltar to the United Kingdom but Madrid continues to lay claim to the territory.
