Planned changes to the National Health's computer network in Spain now means that as from 2011 patients will be able to take their health card into any hospital in the country where the patient record will be able to be accessed digitally.
At the moment the Regional health services are not linked in any way, but the Government says that plans to synchronise the information will be finalized by the end of the year. The announcement was made on Monday by the Minister for Health, Trinidad Jiménez.
The proposal comes before EU plans for European Citizens to have easier access to healthcare services within the EU from 2015.
