The most recent census held by local Ayuntamientos has been published by the INE (National Statistics Institute), and demonstrates the increasing desire for foreigners to venture inland, away from their ‘traditional areas' on the Spanish Costas.
Over 20 villages in province of Malaga now have over one-third of their population made up of foreigners – and the province as a whole has some 300'000 resident foreigners.
Malaga now has residents originating from over 100 countries, topped by almost 70,000 Britons, followed by 27,000 Moroccans, 16,000 Germans, 13,000 Romanians, and then the Argentineans and Italians, still with more than 11,000.
In Benahavís the foreign resident number rises to two-thirds and the figure breaks past 40% in Manilva, Mijas, Alcaucín and Cómpeta.
