Three-quarters of all Brits 'consider moving abroad'

Wed 12th May 2010

Almost three-quarters of British people have considered taking up the expatriate life in a different country this year, new research has found.

The survey found that one in three (31 per cent) cited the poor state of the economy and 23 per cent said a lack of job prospects have made them think about relocating abroad.

Over one in ten (12 per cent) were attracted to the idea of a change in the pace of life.

Would-be expatriates chose Australia as their ideal new location with 33 per cent wanting to move Down Under and a quarter (26 per cent) opting for Canada, with 14 per cent chosing Spain.

A spokesman for the company behind the survey said: "Our survey highlights that many [British residents] are concerned by the prospect of a hung parliament and that the next four years will be dominated by huge tax rises, cuts in public service and inflation.

"People are concerned about the country's economic strength and this is leading to [people] looking to get out," he noted.
