The leader of the Opposition, Mariano Rajoy, has spoken out that he and his party remain certain that pensions will not be part of the so-called solution to clearing up the state defecit.
He went on to say how the P.P. has formally suggested that instead of reducing state benefits to retirees, orphans, widows and the long-term sick, the government should instead reduce electoral campaign expenses. A motion, which he says he is confident, will be approved unanimously.
"After all, we don't need to advertise ourselves, because everyone knows what the different parties are about and what they stand for," he explained.
His suggestion came after Zapatero's proposals to cut state pensions and benefits, and public sector wages, attracted huge criticism from all parties, and was reported yesterday would lead to an increase in unemployment and a drop in productivity and growth throughout the country.
