It is hoped that Sterling's current strength against the Euro will bring a much needed recovery in British tourist numbers to Spain this summer.
Many Hotels are already reporting an increase in bookings, which first started to improve in May. This improvement was not witnessed across the Tourism spectrum, with the Government explaining that was likely down to the more than 400 flights being cancelled as a result of the volcanic ash cloud and strike action by B.A. cabin crew.
The recovery is aided by an increase in the number of airline slots which have been allocated to flights from the UK over the summer months.
Over 13 million British tourists came to Spain during 2009 - almost 20% less than 2008, but still accounting for 25% of all of tourists to Spain.
Over the last 3 months the Euro has fallen by 8.5% against the Pound, and is now at its lowest level since December 2008.
