The Spanish Government's upper house is preparing to approve the use of the Catalan, Galician and Basque languages in full.
Just last week the Senate made another step towards approving measures to further the use of certain Spanish regional languages, but only to be used in the discussion of motions and not in control sessions of the Government. Funding will also need to found from the budget in order to finance to required translating staff, however the implementation of these measures has been delayed until 2011 to allow for this funding to be 'found' without it costing the tax payer any more.
The PP in particular has been quite vocal in it's objection to this, claiming that the costs associated in implementing this change could be put to better use, and that it is in the interests of all Spaniards – whatever their regional language – to understand the motions that are being discussed.
A final decision will be made on the 22nd July.
