The Guardia Civil are expected to defy a ban from the Ministry of the Interior and go ahead with holding a protest in the capital today about their current working conditions.
The Ministry prohibits the Guardia from taking part in protests or strike action, however many are still expected to demonstrate outside the Ministry for the Interior in Madrid. The AUGC Civil Guard Association has described the statement from the Ministry as 'a provocation'.
They are demanding improvements to their current working conditions and a ‘dignified' working day, and those who work in the Traffic Department have been carrying out a so-called ‘dropped ball point pen strike' and restricting the numbers of fines being issued to motorists.
This year sees far fewer guardia civil posts being made available - just 116 - and has so far attracted interest from in excess of 20'000 applicants.
