The National Nuclear Security Administration (NNSA) have revealed how detection equipment has been commissioned at the Valencia's harbour in order to detect smuggled or illegal radioactive cargo.
The NNSA reports that the equipment has been installed as part of its non-proliferation Megaports Initiative, and is in cooperation with the U.S. Embassy in Madrid, Spanish Customs, and the Port Authority of Valencia. It will now be possible to to scan all containers passing through the port for dangerous nuclear and radioactive materials.
An NNSA Press release read "The commissioning of the Port of Valencia underscores the continued shared commitment of the U.S. and Spain to enhance global maritime security".
