This season's tourists have spent more on their holidays in Spain than last year, and statistics for August show the fourth consecutive month where it has risen.
According to recent studies, during August tourists spent an average of 975 euros per head, or 98 per day.
The Brits represented both the largest number of visitors and the biggest spenders, who spent an average of 2.3% more on their holiday this year. Italian visitors contributed the same percentage growth, although the visitor number were considerably less.
The French spent 5.5% more, and the Germans tigthened their belts and reduced their expenditure by 1%.
The most significant change came from the Scandinavians, who increase their spending this year by 12.3%.
The majority of revenue gained from tourism came from the Balearic Islands, although all the other main holiday destinations in Spain – Catalunya, Andalucía, the Canary Islands, the Comunidad Valenciana and Madrid – also saw increases during August.
