Spain's Ministry for Health has confirmed that as from the 2nd of January next year, smoking will be banned in all closed public areas but will be allowed on terraces of bars and restaurants.
The Health Minister stated that smoking on terraces would be allowed as they could be considered as open public spaces, and she noted that there is good weather narly throughout the year, however, no such concession would be made with regards to childrens parks.
The finer points will be debated in Congress on Wednesday, but the Minister declined to give the final details today as the political groups were still negotiating certain issues, however, what was certain was that all closed public spaces would be free of smoke.
