Angeles Muñoz, the Mayor of Marbella has denied suggestions that she is giving local resident Antonio Banderas preferential treatment, despite the fact that a PGOU (Plan General de Ordenación Urbana) is being changed to ensure that he does not have to hand over 1,200 square metres of his beachfront property at Los Monteros.
The terms of the original plan had designated part of the Banderas' garden as being a 'green area'. The change that has been made now means that a much smaller green area will now be created, but Town Planning Councillor, Pablo Moro, said that the town would benefit because the green zone and a new public walkway on the beach would be created sooner.
According to the details in the original plan, the Banderas family would have lost their sea view, but Muñoz claims that the actor has "not received any special treatment" and that his house "is subject to normalisation in the same way as all the other properties which currently have irregularities".
