Spanish pilots have agreed not to strike over the Christmas period, as origianlly threatened last week, saying how they will delay any action they may decide to take until after the busy festive period is over. They are in dispute with the government on maximum working hours for airline crew.
A meeting was originally planned to take place this week to discuss the matter between the pilots' union - SEPLA - and the Development Ministry, but that has been rescheduled for next week. It is believed that the Ministry required more time to prepare a draft text for the negotiations.
EFE reported how a spokesman for the Pilot's union said ‘We'll wait for the meeting and we want to guarantee that there will be no complications from our side to air traffic over Christmas.'
However, Spanish airports may still be affected by strike action from other union members. There has still been no official confirmation of the dates for the announced strike action over Christmas by employees of the Spanish Airports Authority, AENA. The protests are over the government's plans for partial privatisation.
