José María Aznar earlier today said how the country could not compete either in Europe or in the world with the autonomous communities aspiring to become "mini-States".
The former Prime Minister's remarks were made during a presentation on behalf of FAES, or ',Fundacion para el Análisis y los Estudios Sociales', a think tank foundation of he is president of, concerning Spain's Autonomous Communities.
Aznar was accompanied by the secretary general of the PP, María Dolores De Cospedal, as he commented how the country could no longer afford to present itself to the outside world as a "fragmented, insecure and unpredictable country", as a result of "regional diversity" turning into a "journey to nowhere".
He went on state how the autonomous communities themselves are not the problem, but that they do "have problems", and it is therefore necessary to reform the system, whilst respecting the Spanish Constitution. He blamed the current situation with independent nationalism on Spain's Socialist Party.
