Spain's main opposition party has been placed ahead of the ruling Socialist party, according to Spanish newspaper El Pais.
The opinion poll, held by Metroscopia, concludes that if elections were to be held tomorrow the PP would take 43.3% of votes, rising from 43.1% in last month's poll. Support for the ruling Socialist party dipped slightly from 28.6% to 28.4%.
Assuming that the deputy prime minister, Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba, was to stand against the PP's Mariano Rajoy, 40.5% would vote for him against 44.1% for Rajoy, the poll cited by El Pais revealed.
The poll took place last week and surveyed 1,005, citing a 3.2% margin of error.
