Spanish mobile operator Yoigo is upgrading its 3G HSPA mobile network across Spain's major cities. The telecomms provider has chosen to partner with Ericsson as network supplier for the project. Yoigo's existing managed services contract with Ericsson was originally planned to come to and end in September 2011, however under the terms of the new agreement it has now been extended until the end of 2014.
Yoigo's existing 3G network will be upgraded with higher speeds, and extended to increase coverage. The growth of the network is expected to cover most towns in Spain by the end of 2011 and the mobile data and ADSL speed will be increased to 21 Mbps. A significant part of the project is to enable Yoigo to prepare the network infrastructure requirements for in readiness for 4G.
