The UK is home to Europe's biggest holiday drinkers, according to a recent study.
An estimated 65% of all Brits drink more while on holiday than they do at home, the survey conducted by TripAdvisor found.
This compares to 41% for those from other European countries, including the Italians of whom only 28% drank more while away than at home.
The poll, which surveyed 6,000 European Holidaymakers, also revealed that while 29% of Britons darnk over 5 alcoholic drinks a day while on away from home, only 10% of other Europeans do so.
The report also showed how the average Brit drank three alcoholic drinks per day, whilst the average for other Europeans was just one.
Holidaymakers from the UK, France, Italy, Germany and Spain, took part in the survey, which also revealed that UK holidaymakers are the least likely to smoke more when away from home, with the Italians most likely to smoke more.Adversely, 94% of Britons admit to taking care with regards to protection from the sun, with only 4% "not being careful at all", compared to 12% of French holidaymakers who admit to not being at all careful about putting on suncream.
The survey also found that on a score of one to five, with one being the unhealthiest and five the healthiest, Britons were ranked three for their holiday habits, with Italians the least healthy and Spaniards the most healthy.
TripAdvisor spokeswoman Emma O'Boyle said: "British holidaymakers have long been known for liking a drink when away, but it seems Brits really do up the ante with alcohol on holiday in a way our European neighbours do not.
"While it's encouraging to see that Britons are more health-conscious than most other Europeans when it comes to smoking and sun protection on holiday, we've certainly been shamed on our diet, alcohol intake and exercise by the Spanish."
