Spain's Deputy PM was rushed to the intensive care unit of Madrid's Gregorio Maraņon Hospital earlier this week to control his high fever arising from a urinary tract infection.
Government officials confirmed that Alfredo Perez Rubalcaba's condition is not thought to be serious, but doctors advised that he be moved to the Intensive Care Unit for monitoring.
The deputy PM was admitted to Hospital on Sunday after suffering from a high fever, which he believed to be the result of a bad cold.
Doctors were able to diagnose him as having a urinary tract infection which is thought to be resulting from a surgical procedure that he underwent last week.
The Minister has cancelled his diary for the remainder of the week in order to recover.
Rubalcaba is currently the favourite choice of Socialist party members as the electoral candidate in next year's election, if Zapatero should choose not to stand for a further term.
