Even though the speed limit on Spanish motorways was officially reduced from 120km/h to 110km/h earlier this week, it is believed that the Tráfico Guardia Civil will only issue speeding tickets for drivers travelling at speeds over 132km/h.
The Union of Civil Guard Officials, report that they have only been issued with brief instructions verbally since the speed limit was dropped, and that speed cameras are currently functioning on the same settings as before the change.
The UOGC reports that the only written instructions they have concerning the issue of speed limits were issued over five years ago, and that the latest changes to in the speed limit are causing confusion to their member officers aswell as the wider general public.
The Government maintains that lowering the speed limit by 10km/h to 110km/h will result in € 1.4 billion savings on petrol imports which, they claim, will directly benefit the economy of the country.
