The EU executive will take France and Spain to court on Monday over a tax raised on telecoms companies to compensate for the end of advertising on public TV, a source with direct knowledge of the matter said.
"The Commission considers the telecoms taxes in France and Spain to be incompatible with EU telecoms rules," the source, who did not want to be otherwise identified, told Reuters.
The source also said the European Commission would open an infringment procedure against Hungary, where a similar levy was introduced in October 2010.
