Further to news reports earlier this month, where Guardia officers reported that there had been no formal instruction from the Ministry of the Interior concerning recent changes to Spain's Motorway speed limits, they have now received instruction to fine motorists who are driving at 116 Kmph or more. When the new limits came into effect on March 7th, Speed cameras were still calibrated at 132 kmph.
Fixed speed cameras have now been re-calibrated to a fraction over 116 kmph, and hand-held speed cameras have been set at a fraction over 118kmph.
The Guardia Civil Union had previously criticised both the the Dirección General de Tráfico (DGT) and the Ministry of the Interior for failing to communicate these changes and to leaving their officers in a state of confusion.
